The Joker has been an icon in the world of comics ever since its debut in the first DC comic in 1940. Batman’s fiercest enemy and an agent of chaos. Over time there have been several well-executed performances with different interpretations of the character.
The bar for Joaquin Phoenix is set pretty high after what audiences have witnessed in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. Heath Ledger absolutely blew away the critics as well as audiences after a stellar performance of the Joker.
Here are a few talking points before the worldwide release:
- The Story:
The film is set in the 80s and follows the story of a failed stand-up comic named Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) steering towards the path to insanity by ‘one bad day’
There is no doubt that Joaquin Phoenix is an exceptional actor. People started hated him for his role as the tyrant king in The Gladiator and were a perfect antagonist opposite Russel Crowe. Robert De Niro is another perfect addition to the cast alongside other promising names such as ZazieBeetz and Marc Maron. At the direction front, Todd Philips is a renowned name with amazing movies such as A Star is born and of course The Hangover and Due Date. Altogether it makes up for an interesting proposition
- The Trailer:
The release of the final trailer has provoked DC fans to celebrate once again. For many, this movie might be the salvation for DC movies after a few disappointing flicks such as Batman Vs Superman.
Although the film is due for release in October, a few have already witnessed the premiere at the Venice Film Festival. The reviews have been exceptional, praising Joaquin’s performance and also the movie overall.
Director Alberto Barbera even said that the Joker will go straight to the Oscars. The movie received an 8-minute standing ovation from the audience at the end of the screening at the Venice Film Festival.
We’re very much excited for Phillip’s Joker. Especially after what went down at the Venice Film Festival. The film hits theatres October 4th, 2019.
