Ever since the film industry started to flourish, the hefty fees of Bollywood actors have become a talking point of the town. Further, the recent news of actors raising their fees with superhits under their belt has made it the sole responsibility of the producer to ensure that their movies are financially solid to hire a popular face for that film.
Nevertheless, sometimes, actors are generous; they exhibit their humanity by not charging a single rupee for the roles to which they dedicate a considerable amount of time.
Carrying the same here is are few actors who did not charge a penny form their roles:
Amitabh Bachchan- Black
It is hard to believe that a legendary actor like Big B charged nothing for his role. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s direction was undeniably masterful and what we experienced was probably one of the best movies of his career. On the 12th anniversary of the movie, Amitabh Bacchan wrote a blog in which he mentioned that he just wanted to work with Mr Bhansali and when the opportunity came in-form of Black he was so overwhelmed that he didn’t want to charge any fees for the film as being a part of the film was sufficient for him.
Deepika Padukone- Om Shanti Om
She is, currently, the highest-paid actress in the industry. However, she made her debut for free! Om Shanti Om was the film that started the ball for her in the industry but just to be a part of Shah Rukh Khan’s production and to star alongside him she did the film for free.
Farhan Akhtar and Sonam Kapoor- Bhaag Milkha Bhaag
The biopic of the legendary Flying Sikh of India, that is, Milkha Singh saw both Farhaan Akhtar and Sonam Kapoor charge a token amount of only Rs.11 for their respective roles.
Shahid Kapoor- Haider
Shahid Kapoor is among those who did not charge anything for his role in Haider. Further, as per the reports, the director of the film, Vishal Bharadwaj, charged no fee. This was done to remove the burden from the film which already had a huge budget to assemble a cast and incredible pieces of action.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui- Manto
For Manto, which was critically acclaimed in the industry, Nawazuddin Siddiqui charged a token amount of Re. 1. Furthermore, the supporting cast in the film such as Rishi Kapoor, Javed Akhtar, Gurdas Maan, Rajshree Deshpande, Ranvir Shorey, Swanand Kirkire also chose not to charge anything for their roles.
